Biography
At the core of my work is a belief that art should evoke emotion and provoke thought. I strive to create pieces that sing visually, but also inspire conversations and connections among viewers. The essence of my paintings lies in our interaction with the world and the unique lens through which we perceive and interpret our connections to it. I am particularly interested in dreams and their connection to memory retention, trauma healing and grief resolution, which I am currently exploring in my recent body of work.
I begin each piece with a memory/dream in mind, but allow the materials, sketches, music, and my intuition to guide me as I work. I play with colour and texture, layering in stages and being led from one process to another as I investigate how memory accumulates, disintegrates, shifts and eventually fades away. This cathartic practice resonates on both a personal and creative level. I feel the process of memory construction, and the loss of it, especially after trauma, impacts our sense of identity.
